WCHCT GIVES £5000 GRANT TO ALL SAINTS’ PARISH CHURCH, LEAMINGTON SPA

All Saints is a large Anglican Grade II listed Church, dating from 1842, which is on the southern side of the town of Leamington Spa. It dates from 1842, but Christian worship has been offered on this site for perhaps a thousand years.

WCHCT received an application for a grant from All Saints in 2016. The Parish population was 3,810 but they had an electoral roll of only 65 people. All Saints had significant repair and maintenance issues and costs, all of which were significantly out of proportion to the size and resources of the congregation.

This is a church that is open to the community and a café is run inside the church four days a week, so the WCHCT wanted to help. Our grant of £5000 went a little way to reducing their shortfall for urgent work needed in re-slating the South Aisle / Baptistry roof.

FAMILIES BATTLED THUNDERSTORMS FOR RIDE & STRIDE 2017

Many thanks to everyone who took part in Ride & Stride last September 2017. It was certainly a challenge to some riders who had to battle through very wet weather but they still managed to raise funds to preserve our Warwickshire churches and chapels.

Our photographs show two families. Pictured here is Jarno, sheltering from a thunderstorm. With his Dad, WCHCT Trustee Graeme Beamish, he cycled round 8 churches including Salford Priors, Exhall, Alcester, Whatcote and Temple Grafton, covering 21 miles. Despite a soaking, Graeme and Jarno enjoyed the day very much and are planning to participate in this year’s Ride and Stride on Saturday 8th September 2018!

The Reeve family – Sandy, Felicity, Pip, Wilf and their dog, Tango are pictured here at St Lawrence Church, Oxhill and St Peter’s, Whatcote. They visited 11 churches and cycled 22 miles and raised £400, which was a wonderful result.

The WCHCT would love to hear more stories about last year’s Ride and Stride, so do please let us know how you got on.

We look forward to seeing you on Saturday 8th September for Ride & Stride 2018. For more information, click here.

DAME JUDI DENCH SENDS A MESSAGE OF SUPPORT FOR OUR 2018 SHAKESPEARE’S SCENERY CYCLE RIDE

The WCHCT has set up a brand new fundraising bike ride event this year and we hope you will join us for this unique midsummer ride through the stunning Warwickshire countryside. (This event is taking place in addition to Ride & Stride 2018).

Dame Judi Dench, our Patron, has sent the following message of support:

“Churches and chapels are at the heart of our British heritage, and Shakespeare Country – which I am so fond of – is where some of the most beautiful ones in Britain were built and still stand sentinel over the landscape.

Please help our Trust to preserve our precious past by joining us on a fantastic midsummer fundraising Ride, cycling through stunning Warwickshire scenery and visiting places that would have inspired the Bard in his lifetime.”

Shakespeare’s Scenery Cycle Ride will take place on the weekend of Saturday June 30th and Sunday July 1st 2018. Our fully supported Heritage Ride will start and end at Stoneleigh Park and you can cycle with us for one day or for the whole weekend.

Join us on your own, with friends or family (and children over 12 years old) and enjoy riding through the fantastic scenery that Shakespeare know and loved. You will stop off for snacks and lunch breaks at churches and places of historic interest where you will learn their fascinating secrets and stories.

Click here to find out more and register for the Ride.
