Wooton Wawen Church
Wooton Wawen is the oldest church in Warwickshire, with a Saxon tower and crossing dating back to around 900.
There is no trace of the Saxon monastery but earthworks mark the site of a later Norman Priory. The church includes medieval glass and wall painting, as well as some magnificent brasses, tombs and memorials.
The tower behind the large south chapel is Saxon in its lower stages. The base of the tower has an altar and modern stained glass in its north window. The font is 14th century and the bench-ends date from a century later. There is a 17th century monument to Francis Smith which has an effigy of him in armour.
